Is it safe to buy short-dated or past-date products?

The dates provided on products are the date where the food is thought to be at its best flavor and quality. This date does not necessarily determine if a product is good anymore. Most products are good for much longer than the dates on them. The USDA has said this date is not a “purchase by” date or a date to determine official safety. Items with past dates are still safe to consume and we are constantly checking our products for quality.
